Today (Monday) has been a class day - class all morning and into the afternoon. Today we focused on the Exorcism Stories in the Gospels. We are comparing the texts of the four Gospels to gain insight into how each Evangelist answers the question: Who is Jesus? It is intense and textual and our Teacher, Fr. Gregory Tatum, OP, is a genius! The discussions that arise as a result of the textual analysis is enlightening. Just as the Gospels show us something about the faith of the writers, our discussion reveals a lot about the faith of the discussers. We are all growing as a result of
the experience. As the letter to the Hebrews says: "The Word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart" (Heb 4:12)
The Word is also a major tool of my trade. I'm here getting my tools tuned up. The implications for preaching will be profound. I'll be preaching here every four or five days, but I can't wait to take the tools fora test spin back in the Parish when this experience has concluded!
